Michael Paul Mullin

1947 - 2015

Salem - Michael Paul Mullin, 67, of Salem, passed away on Jan. 14, 2015, at his residence.

Mike was born on Feb. 8, 1947, in Logan, Utah, to Paul Burton Mullin and Mary Jane (Blake) Mullin. As the son of an Air Force officer, he lived at various bases in Japan, Germany, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Ohio. He attended Mechanicsburg High School where he met his wife and soulmate of 45 years, Christine (Manotti) Mullin.

Mike was a man of integrity who always helped people and only asked in return that you pay it forward. This was a value he held dear and lived every day.

He is also survived by his son, Michael C. Mullin of Simsbury; his daughter, Andrea "Nikki" Mullin Richardson and husband, Jim Richardson, of Palmyra, Pa.; his brothers, Steven Mullin of Hollywood, Calif., and Phillip B. Mullin of Ida, Okla. He took great pride in his two grandchildren, Sydney E. Richardson and Alexander J. Richardson of Palmyra, Pa.; Also surviving are his father-in-law, James B. Manotti Sr. of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; brothers-in-law, James B. Manotti Jr. and wife, Linda, of Mechanicsburg, Jeffery S. Manotti and wife, Kim, of Pine Grove, Pa., Joseph D. Manotti and wife, Miriam, of Harrisburg, Pa.; numerous nieces, nephews, and grandnieces.

He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Jennifer Lynne Mullin.

He was a U.S Navy veteran, first class petty officer serving on the USS Benjamin Franklin (SSBN-640) (gold crew). He worked over 25 years at Millstone Nuclear Power Station, retiring as control room supervisor, Unit 2. After his retirement, he worked as a real estate agent with Partner Network.

"Big Mike", as he was known by many in the community, was an entreprenuer and owner of "Big Daddy's Texas Style Bar-B-Que". He helped many organizations in the Salem area raise money for their causes while eating the best food in town. For those who have young children, Michael may also have been known as Santa Claus.

He was a member of St. Matthias Church, a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as a Mason. He frequently helped those in need. Over the years, he was very active in town government in Salem serving on the Planning and Zoning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at St. Matthias Church, 317 Chesterfield Road, East Lyme. Interment will be private. There are no calling hours. A lunch reception will be held at the church after the mass.
