Miriam was a resident of Brunswick and Golden, Colo. Miriam was born June 10, 1921, in Enosburg Falls, Vt. the daughter of the Rev. Elmer E. and Beatrice Stott Scates.
She was married to William J. Gillogly on May 3, 1947, in Groton. William passed away Sept. 9, 2004.
Miriam graduated from Enosburg Falls High School and the St. Albans Hospital School of nursing. She was a registered nurse in the U.S. Public Health Service in 1945, stationed at the U.S. Marine Hospital in Staten Island, N.Y. and later at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London. She worked for 18 years as an industrial nurse at Electric Boat Company in Groton retiring in 1983.
She was a member of the Poquonnock Bridge Baptist Church and the Shennecossett Yacht Club.
She was a considerate, kind and gentle woman who loved her family and had many friends. She was fond of Eastern Point Beach and remained physically active until shortly before her death.
She is survived by a son, Timothy (Lana); daughter, Elizabeth (Chris) of Golden, Colo. and brother, Robert; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Alberta Dempsey, Winifred Young and Priscilla Flanigan.
A memorial service will be held in the summer at the Poquonnock Bridge Baptist Church, 1241 Poquonnock Rd., Groton.
Donations in her memory may be directed to the Ladies Circle of the church or Chans Hospice, 60 Baribeau Dr., Brunswick, ME 04011.

I bowled with Miriam in the 90's, what a trooper!! She was a remarkable lady, always with a smile on her face. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and there will be a little less sunshine at Holiday Bowl
