Patrick A. "Pat" Hurley

Stonington - Patrick A. Hurley, "Pat," 71, of Stonington, died peacefully at home battling Parkinson's Disease Saturday, July 6, 2024. He grew up in Rye, N.Y., and was the son of the late Joseph and Lois (Keeler) Hurley.

Pat was an undergraduate from Manhattan College eventually earning his master's degree from Pace University. Patrick was an insurance risk manager, which was a career he loved. He held both the CPCU and the ARM designations. He was very active in the N.Y.C. chapter of RIMS, where he also served as treasurer. Pat also taught risk management as a professor in residence for various universities, as well as teaching graduate students at St. John's University, N.Y.

In his spare time, Pat enjoyed playing golf, and later in life, learned to make bread, which he was very proud of.

He leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Sharon (Boland) Hurley; his two sons, Matthew Hurley and his wife, Sarah Wolin of New York, and Daniel Hurley and his fiancée, Anna McAuley of New Jersey; two sisters, Maureen Milet and her husband, Eric, of Riverside, and Kathleen Sparanese and her husband, Michael, of Sarasota, Fla.; his two sisters-in-law, Karen Harz of Manchester, and Susan Lance and her husband, Mark of Massachusetts; mother-in-law Elaine Boland and her husband Vincent Benevento; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by several first cousins whom he was very close to. Patrick was predeceased by his brother Michael Hurley of South Carolina.

His family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, at St. Mary Church, 95 Main Street, in Stonington. His burial will be held privately following the Mass.
