Priscilla Smith Obituary
Patti grew up in Noank and graduated from Fitch High School in 1958. She earned her LPN License in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Florida; Associate degree in General Science; and another Associate degree, DARC specific. Following came her Bachelor of Science in Human Services from New Hampshire College; and her Masters in Counseling and Public Relations from Eastern Connecticut State University.
She was a Stonington Youth Counselor and organized the first High School overnight graduation party in Stonington.
Patti had a passion for helping people with drug and alcohol related abuse. She set up her own private practice in Westerly, R.I. helping many families and individuals. She received numerous Advanced Chemical Dependency Professional certifications.
She and her husband, John, loved the ocean and spent many summers camping at Misquamicut Beach, relishing all the family visits. They retired to Zephyrhills, Florida, and from there traveled to many countries. They continued their love of the ocean by enjoying many island cruises.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Smith in 2019; and her brother Sherman W. Maine.
She leaves her daughter, Robin Bissell of Groton; son Richard Charette (Tammy) of Carthage, N.Y.; son Ronald Dean of Massachusetts; a sister, Joyce A. Maine of Colchester; niece Corrina Hope of Colchester; nephew Scott (Catherine) Maine of Dardenne Prairie, Mo.; sister-in-law Patricia Maine; grandchildren, Jeffrey Aspinwall (Rachel), Jennifer Bryne (James), Ricky Aspinwall, Kristin Clark; and six great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 14, at The Bridge Market, Groton.
