Dear Lorraine & family. Again, I am saddened to hear of 'Chimps' death and send our deepest sympathies. I rode Nautilus from 1957 to 1960 so had a good chance to get to know him as well as during the many 571 reunions over the years. He was among the most out-going and friendly shipmates I've ever known; always ready with his signature smile. I know he loved his family first, his bikes second and he enjoyed both of them to a fault. I'm proud to have known, served with him, & called him shipmate. Sail on, sail on. J.C. & Beverly Yuill

My deepest sympathy to the extended Sanborn family. Ray was a one in a million shipmate who never tired of educating the rest of us on the intricacies of the First and Finest. My prayers go to Ray's family. I remember him as a good friend during our tour together under CO Alex Anckonie. He always made the goat locker fun to be in and I will rub the "Buda's" belly in his memory. His knowledge of Nautilus was amazing and he was admired and respected by his crew and peers. He will be missed and remembered always.

For Lorraine, family, and friends of MMCM(SS) Ray "Chimp" Sanborn, USN, Ret.
No bond is greater than that between family members and that of submarine sailors. We, of the Nautilus Alumni Association, extend our deepest condolences as you grieve. Chimp touched the lives of hundreds of his shipmates in positive ways and we all are better sailors having sailed with him. Chimp will be missed but not forgotten by his shipmates.
Ray, you have done your duty. Sailor, Rest Your Oar!

I will never forget when Ray fell in love with Raine. Seems as if it was within the first week of dating that he went and saw our parents and told them he was going to marry her. 25+ years later a marriage speaks for it's self. You guys had alot of fun on your bikes and there many memories that will be kept close to everyones heart. Peace be with you ! Signed "Your Baby Sister" aka youngest!
