Richard Fazio Obituary

Waterford - Dr. Richard Fazio, 63, of Waterford, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, following a courageous fight with a chronic illness.

Rich was born Dec. 15, 1953, in Queens, N.Y., to Mario and Pauline Fazio.

Rich met the love of his life, Kathryn Beckert, when they were both 19 years old, and they married in the summer of 1979 after he graduated medical school. After he completed his cardiology fellowship at Brown University, he and Kathryn moved to southeastern Connecticut, where he became a popular cardiologist with patients and staff due to his empathetic bedside manner. His intelligence and kindness were beyond measure. He gave his heart and soul to his patients, treating every single one with dignity and respect. He was known for being approachable and professional and will be remembered not only for the countless lives he saved, but also for his incredibly big heart.

A loving father, his daughters always came first and were the light of his life. His favorite thing to do was grow his vegetable garden every summer. He was also able to enjoy a retirement where he read countless books and spent every single day with his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; daughters, Nicole and Erica; his mother, Pauline; and brothers, Robert and Gary.

His family would like to thank his friends, neighbors, doctors, and the nurses from the VNA and Hospice of SECT for all their support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at St. Paul's Church, 170 Rope Ferry Road, Waterford. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 22, at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London. Burial is private.

Dr. Fazio was my favorite Cardiologist and friend. My only one for a long time. Never found anyone more caring in the patient. He will be missed a lot. It seems like I am always comparing my new doctors to him and have not found anyone to come close.
He and his family will be in my prayers. He loved you all.
Sincerely
Richard Walker (Deacon at St. Paul's) and Sharon

My dear Kadie and girls I am so sad for your loss. I remember last July 04, 2016 watching Rich cook burgers for all the guests. He was just an amazing person.

The world has lost a kind, generous and loving man. Rich always had time to talk, to listen and care. Many people are sad that he is no longer with us on Earth.

I came to know Rich through my employment at the Hospital; after many years, and many lunch time conversations we knew each other well. It was from breaking bread over time, that I came to realize the measure of the man that sat across from me. He was the example we would all like to be, in every role he played, his performance was spot on- second to none. I'm proud to have known Rich, and counted him as my friend, he will be sorely missed.

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Dr. Fazio. I worked at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for 7 years and one of my favorite people to see there was Dr. Fazio. We always had chats on Mondays about the birds and things we did over the weekend, mine, at the time were the concerts I worked at the Mohegan Sun Arena and I loved hearing about his family, I know how much he loved his family. My thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Fazio's family and RIP Dr. Fazio.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
