DR. RICHARD HENRY GROTH

Oct. 14, 1929 - Jan. 22, 2025

A son of the late Henry and Nellie Emma (Otterbein) Groth. He received his B.S. degree from the Teachers College of Connecticut and his Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry from Ohio State University. Following a postdoctoral research fellowship at Duke University, North Carolina, Richard was employed at the University of Hartford. In 1970, he joined Central Connecticut State College as an associate professor of chemistry, later becoming a professor of chemistry and serving for nine years as chair of the Department of Chemistry. He was awarded the college's Distinguished Service Award and continued lecturing at Central Connecticut State University until 1999. Richard was also a consultant to Pratt & Whitney for

30 years and to the Connecticut State Police forensic science laboratory for 12 years.
