Richard Wetherell Obituary

Groton - Richard B. Wetherell III succumbed to his injuries in the early afternoon of Jan. 19, 2025, at Hartford Hospital surrounded by family and loved ones. Born Aug. 6, 1966, the youngest child of Richard B. Wetherell Jr. and Rita Stutz Wetherell of Gales Ferry.

Affectionately known as Dickie, he is survived by son Ritch Wetherell; daughter-in-law Lindsey; granddaughters, Presley and Hayden of Groton; and daughter Kelsey Wetherell of Stonington. Dickie is also survived by his father Richard; sisters, Dawn, April and Mary; their children and spouses; and Dickie's long-term partner Sheri Hinkle of Old Lyme. He is predeceased by mother Rita S. Wetherell.

As a graduate of Ledyard High School, Class of 1984, Dickie went on to become a skilled mechanic of his trade, able to fix any machine or engine that came in his path. He enjoyed the outdoors greatly, known to be in a pair of shorts no matter the weather. He also enjoyed cooking Sunday morning breakfast, extending an invite to anyone and everyone. His huge presence and smile could fill up any empty space, along with his booming and devilish laughter. Dickie lived life on his terms, unapologetically, and found solace in life's little moments.

In lieu of flowers, please pay an act of kindness forward to honor his memory. Information on a service will follow from the family.

I remember us as kids going swimming, Dickie would swim under us and grab our ankles and pull us under. We would get so mad at him,but then we always ended up laughing so hard
