Niantic - Robert Henry David Swan Jr., age 58, died unexpectedly Sunday after being stricken ill at home. He was the husband of Diane Gilmore Swan and was employed as a Foreman for the East Lyme Parks and Recreation Department.

Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

I will always remember what a kind man Rob was.

My heart goes out to the Swan family. I worked for Rob for a few summers at EL Parks and Rec, as well as having Diane as my 1st and 2nd grade teacher. They have done so much for me as a person and I thank them both for who I am today. Rob was a great guy to work for and I have so much respect for him and the way he carried himself. I cannot begin to imagine the gaping hole he leaves in his family, and the community. The Swans are an integral part to the EL community and my thoughts are with them right now.

My heart goe´s out to Diane, Lydia, Vincent, and Rob´s Parents.
I worked side by side with Rob for 12 years as East Lyme Park&Recreation seasonal employees , his work ethic, and commitment to his job, was unrivaled, we shared many special moments in our time working together, I think we made a great team, and now my teammate, my Friend, is no longer with us, and it breaks my heart,Rob Swan was always family first, his love of his family shined thru every day we worked together,his Dad Bob Swan was one of the nicest men I have ever met, and someone I have the utmost respect for, I will pray for the Swan family as they grieve the loss of a loving Husband, Father and Son, who has left us way too soon
