He was born on Oct. 9, 1946 in Putnam, son of the late John and Martha (Pruett) Benway.
He was married May 27, 1972 to Mary (Matwyko) Benway.
Ron was a U.S. Navy veteran, a lifetime member of the South Killingly Fire Department and retired employee of Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam after 27 years of service. Ron was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was also an excellent mechanic, carpenter and teacher. He will be sadly missed.
Ron is survived by his wife Mary of 33 years; one son, Ronald L. Benway Jr. and his wife, Candie, of Lyme; one daughter, Leeann Benway, of Middletown; five grandchildren; and a foster mother, Evelyn Waldon, of Lyme. He is also survived by two brothers, Walter Benway and his wife, Kathy, of South Bend, Ind., and Charles Benway and his wife, Daisy, of Sanford, Fla.; one sister, Lyn Green of Plano, Texas; two brothers-in-law, John and Robert Matwyko, of Eastford; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Friday, December 2nd at the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook at 8 p.m. Family and friends may call prior to the service Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ron's memory to the South Killingly Fire Dept., 803 Providence Pike, Danielson, CT 06239, The Lyme Volunteer Fire Company, 213 Hamburg Road, Lyme, CT 06371 or to the charity of one's choice.
