Aunt Ruth and Uncle "Ski" as we called him were very kind and I loved them! Aunt Ruth was the last of the 12 Brooks children to live and now pass. Love to all my cousins and sending my thoughts as you have beautiful memories of your mom, grandmother and great- grandmother. With Love -- Carol Scarbrough (aka Tina Brooks - John Brooks' daughter)

I have the best memories of your mom and many times spent at your house in the Highlands. In time, I hope your memories will sustain you and smiles will replace your tears. Rest In Peace, Ruth xoxo

Dear Slonski Family,
I just want to tell you how sad I was to here of your Dear Mothers passing. She was one special Woman ! I have such fond memories of her from allowing all the kids in the neighborhood and near by to fill your house in Ledyard, to cutting her hair while I was going to school , to cutting it when I got my first job. We shared the same birthday and she always made me feel special when we would have lunch to celebrate the day together. I was happy to see her for her 75 birthday at the picnic at Washington park. I have lots more memories of her but those stick out the most.
I know how much you loved her and she loved her kids and grandkids so much. I want to tell you she was loved by many including me.
God Bless you all,
Dina Moran Ballestrini

I remember the times we all lived in the Highlands, where everyone knew everyone! Your Mom was an awesome woman and at that time, an awesome Mother and neighbor. I will remember her fondly. May Ruth rest in peace always in the arms of our Lord. Sending prayers of comfort to all those she leaves behind.

Dear Jan, Nancy, Pam, & the entire circle of Ruth's family n' friends,
Have loved you girls more'n 40 years! Have loved your mom right along with ya! She was a wonderful and lovely lady always. Though it's been a long time, time and distance doesn't diminish memories like ours!!!
Understanding the hole left behind, regardless forewarning, pray this helps some wee bit...to allow...enable...the grief! And grief will come...indulge it...it is necessary, but it is also a measure of the impact this lost love had on your lives! Too, remember the pain of loss is but the other side of the coin from heaven's celebration, rejoicing over the new arrival!!! So truly sorry to hear about your mom, grandma, friend. Definitely keepin' y'all in our prayers that Christ hold you close in this trying time!
When my mother died, even after a years-long battle with cancer, I was shattered by the loss...inconsolable...she was my mentor! BUT, "If your faith assures you she's in heaven, then what are the tears all about?!?" I hold eternity with God a precious, cherished, and hard-won prize...but...in the interim, the answer lies below.
SELFISH TEARS
(I EULOGIZE MY BELOVED MOTHER - MARCH, 1989)
Today we cry...must admit they're selfish tears.
You see...our faith assures your journey's done.
But it's not for you we mourn, at all, my dear;
It's for those of us you've left behind...alone!!!
We share your joy...share your happiness at rest,
Your painful fears now for forever stilled.
You've fought the good fight, passed the final test,
But you've left behind a hole that can't be filled!!!
So, until we each rejoin you some someday,
And, while your memory buoys us through those years,
We'll miss you...but continue on our way,
And, from time to time, we'll cry our selfish tears!!!
