Sabra Bartlett Obituary

New London - Sabra Jane Bartlett died on Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at her home in New London with her husband and family members present.

She was born on March 5, 1952, in Hartford.

She was predeceased by her father, Robert A. Bartlett and her stepfather, Booth W. Johnson.

She is survived by her loving husband, Claus Wolter; her mother, Sabra Briggs Johnson of N. Ft. Myers, Fla.; an older sister, Ann Bartlett and her husband, Robert Alexander, of Glen Gardner, N.J.; also Bill and Maggi (Black) Bartlett of Rochester, Tom Bartlett of Las Vegas, and Pete and Deb (Baildon) Bartlett of St. Albans, Vt.; nieces and nephews, Evan, Ian, Kendall, Allison, Bob, and Meredith; and several grandnieces and nephews, all of whom were dearly loved by Sabra.

A past principal at Scudder, Stevens and Clark working with the Scudder Insurance Asset Management team in Boston, Mass., Sabra more recently founded and was president of Shearwater Associates LLC, a sales and marketing firm for investment managers. She held a bachelor's of arts degree from St. Lawrence University where she was a French major. She received her M.B.A from the Stern School of Business at New York University and also held the title of chartered financial analyst (C.F.A.). Sabra had been a member of the board of trustees at St. Lawrence University since 1997. While on the board, she served in many leadership positions and always had a soft spot in her heart for North Country students, having herself grown up in Ogdensburg, N.Y. on the St. Lawrence River.

Sabra was fortunate to have traveled the world over and reached many milestones both personally and professionally. Her humility and grace hid this from her many friends and colleagues. Sabra's radiant smile, infectious laugh, good natured disposition to those around her, and her passion for life will be missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m., Nov. 19, 2005, at Gunnison Memorial Chapel on the St. Lawrence University campus, in Canton, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a memorial fund in Sabra's name and sent directly to the Development Office, Vilas Hall, St. Lawrence University, Canton NY 13617.

I knew Sabra as Tabie during our high school years in Ogdensburg. We had many joyous times playing in woodwind quintet and passing notes in history class. I have remembered her with great fondness over the years. It's obvious to all who knew her that she was special. My thoughts and sympathy are with her family.

I went through high school with Tabie and have many fond memories of the four years we spent at OFA together, especially time spent at band activities. Although we lost contact with each other through the years, I was saddened to hear of her death and wanted to convey my sympathy to all of her family

Claus, you were so fortunate to have had Sabra in your life and she you. You were an inspirational couple! So many gifts. As brutally painful as your loss is perhaps remembering all those great times together will help. We are thinking of you both fondly in Hamilton.

Sabra was an old and dear friend and one of those most special people we are blessed in knowing. She enriched many lives and I am grateful that mine was one of them.

Sabra and I were buddies on the tennis court, the track and the treadmill. I loved the fun times we had sweating together and always enjoyed "her presence". She was beautiful, kind and honest. I'm blessed to have known her heart.

I only met Sara once in Boston she was a gracious host and had a outgoing personality. She made us feel right comfortable and welcomed us into her home. God works in mysterious ways you have great memories and we will keep her in our prayers Jim Morreale

We were deeply saddened when we heard the news. Sabra was a joy. I remember drinks in the Copley Hotel, running through the warm rain on the commons, starbucks coffee on a crisp clear October morning at the Head of the Charles and the fun of playing tennis. Her warmth, kindness and infectious laugh will always remain in our hearts.
