Sherwood A. Cadorette

Groton - Sherwood A. Cadorette, 88, of 273 Thames St., Groton passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.

Born on May 28, 1925, in Worcester, Mass., he was the son of Arthur H. and Marie F. (Deschamps) Cadorette. Sherwood married Berta Wilhelmina Bauer in Munich, Germany on Feb. 28, 1955.

He was an accomplished musician, having studied at the R.I. Conservatory of Music and the Staatliche Musik Hochschule in Munich, Germany. Sherwood performed as a piano accompanist for many singers and instrumentalists, notably in the U.S. Coast Guard Chamber Music Concerts.

He served 14 years in the U.S. Air Force and retired from Northeast Utilities after 21 years in 1991. He was a charter member of the German Cultural Society and a lifetime member of the I.O.O.F. He was also an avid cook and edited a cookbook for the German Cultural Society. He also had a special liking for teaching English as a second language; particularly for Russian Jewish refugees.

Sherwood is survived by his wife, Berta; three daughters, Monika Cadorette, Margo Cadorette, both of Groton, and Suzzane Mayfield and her husband, Greg, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; two sons, Claus Cadorette and his wife, Deniz, of Istanbul, Turkey and Heinz Cadorette of Groton; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents of Thompson; and his sister, Marjorie Mitsko of Groton.

Funeral arrangements are private. There are no calling hours.
