Stephanie Jones Obituary

Montville - Stephanie C. Jones, 22, of Kitemaug Road, Uncasville, died on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015.

On April 29, 1993, she was born in New London, the daughter of Stevenson Jones Sr. and the late Heather Montgomery. Stephanie grew up in Uncasville and was a graduate of Montville High School Class of 2011. She loved sports and was an excellent basketball player herself in high school. What Stephanie lacked in size she certainly made up for in personality. She had strong beliefs and opinions and wasn't afraid to let you know exactly how she felt.

She was proud of her Mohegan Tribal heritage and loved spending time with her family and friends. What she was most proud of was being a mom to her son Carter. Her world revolved around him. She will forever be remembered as a loving mother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Carter Berthiaume and his father, Michael Berthiaume; two brothers, Stevenson Jones Jr. and Shaun Jones; her father, Stevenson Jones Sr.; grandparents, Robert and Dori Montgomery; her aunt, Amy Montgomery; two cousins, Emma and Zoie Farrar; and a large extended family.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at the Fort Shantok Burial Grounds in Uncasville.

Woyasz & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dear Beloved Family Members,
My thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt sympathy go out to each one of you during this time of excruciating sorrow. I first met Stefanie when she was an avid young reader. During her high school years, I read about her basketball achievements. What a wonderful, loving, and caring mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin, and friend she was. May the happy memories you have of Stefanie be a source of comfort for you during this time of immense sorrow.

I didn't know Stephanie personally. My husband was a Mohegan tribal member who recently passed in a motorcycle accident at age 24 in October. I pray for the family and her son. I pray the Lord sends them love and warmth during these cold winter months and the strength for Carter to have a strong support system and family. God bless .

I remember cheering for the basketball season. I was class of 2010 and you were on the varsity team. You were such a good player. I also remember the moments we talked in study hall or least saying hi in the halls or in the locker room before gym class. Your personality was one of a kind and you were so nice and kind of a person. R.i.p steph you will always be missed and loved. To your family I wish you all my best and sorry for your loss. Steph will always be with you and smiling down on you all. Hugs to steph and family.

"Heartbreak" is the word I keep coming back to after hearing the news. We have known Steph since Kindergarten, as she grew up with our daughter Emilee. They went to school together, played sports together, but more importantly, they made memories together. I am thankful I was able to watch her grow and become an amazing person! May you all find the strength to get through this difficult time and know that she will live on through Carter. Our prayers are with the family.
