Stephen Slattery Obituary

Waterford - It is with unbearable sadness that my husband of 34 years, Stephen Slattery, father, brother uncle, 71, of Waterford entered eternal life Dec. 5, 2025, at home in the comfort of his loving family. He was born Sept. 22, 1954, in Ithaca, N.Y., the son of the late Donald and Theresa (Baiguini) Slattery. He attended local schools in Ithaca, and Ithaca College and later, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1974, serving in Sub Service for 20 years, retiring in 1994 at the rank of E6.

He was united in marriage to the former Salynne Watson Nov. 23, 1991, in Shepard by the Sea Chapel in Groton. She often joked that he took her breath away as he was her CPR instructor when they met.

Mrs. Slattery survives him; as well as his two children, whom he cherished more than life itself, Alexa Slattery and her husband Cody "Spuds" Schlais of New London, and Dylan Slattery of Waterford. He was a caring, loving, understanding father who would do anything for his children.

Raising his family in New London, then moving to Waterford in 1998, Stephen later worked at BJs Wholesale Club for 26 years starting in maintenance working his way up to manager. It was a job he enjoyed immensely where he was well known and well liked by many coworkers and customers until his illness forced him to retire.

Stephen is also survived by five siblings: Jim, Danny and David of Ithaca, Donna Cooper of New York, Kathy Button of Massachusetts and their families including many nieces and nephews.

He was an avid Yankees and Giants fan. He never missed a game either watching or listening on TV or radio with his beloved dog Lilly by his side. Steve also enjoyed golf, cards, reading Stephen King books, Harry Potter books, and all their movies, as well as all number and word puzzles.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's in hopes that a cure is found for this terrible disease.

Memorial services will be held in New York at a later date. The Impellitter-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Avenue, New London has been entrusted with his care.

"Be free now Steve and walk with the angels. Give Lilly, Nanny, Grandma and Grandpa Slattery a hug for all of us. We will be all right and will always love you."
