Timothy Lewis Obituary

East Lyme - Timothy William Lewis of East Lyme passed peacefully in his sleep Aug. 13, 2025, at the age of 62.

Tim was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. Feb. 11, 1963, and was raised most of his childhood in Tuxedo, N.Y. He attended Don Bosco High School, Maritime College, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Hartford), and worked at Electric Boat in Groton as an Electrical Engineer. He met his wife Janice, also an Electrical Engineer there, and they were married in September of 1987. Together, they lived life to the fullest, embracing every moment of their 38 years with love, travel, music, and family as their center.

Tim is predeceased by his father William Lewis. He is survived by his mother, Annie Lewis (91 years old); his wife Janice; and children, Drew and Stephanie.

Tim was a creative intellect, known for his inventions, art, music, and many funny "Onion-like" creations, including his beloved themed holiday newsletters and witty tributes at milestone family events. He was an avid outdoorsman who was biking, hiking, and walking day and night. He had a particular love for multi-day hikes in the Grand Canyon and the New Zealand Great Walks. Throughout his life, he was in bands of every genre of music, and focused on music full-time in his retirement.

Tim was also the best father anyone could want – incredibly fun, loving, and always there to support when needed with great advice to give. Tim and his wife Janice traveled the world with their kids and all have happy memories of all the amazing places and experiences shared with him. His wife, Janice, fondly remembers the little gestures and notes he would leave for her around the house, like the sign pointing to her coffee "pre-sweetened, just like you". He was one of a kind and will be sorely missed. There will never be another.

The family is coordinating with various groups and musical communities Tim was a part of to plan celebrations in his memory. If you want to do something charitable in his honor, we ask that you donate to a worthy cause of your choice in his name.

The Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand St. Niantic, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Tim was a very special human being. A great friend, classmate and shipmate. He had so many gifts; technical, nautical, musical, comedic and he had an innate wisdom about the world. All of these talents showed up in the one thing he displayed every day....his goodness. I will miss him a great deal.
