Vincent M. Grybauskas

Narragansett, R.I. - Vincent M. Grybauskas, 83, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025, at South County Hospital. He was the loving husband of Sandra (Littlefield) Grybauskas. Born in Kedainiai, Lithuania, he was a son of the late Vincas and Pranciska (Yurkevich) Grybauskas.

As a seven-year-old who endured the bombing of Dresden and ultimately reached the shores of America, Vincent proudly became a U.S. citizen, served as a U.S. Army officer, and became a distinguished executive and respected colleague at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics.

Vincent, the only child of Vincent and Pranciska (Yurkeviciute) Grybauskas, was born in Kedainiai, Lithuania. He arrived at Ellis Island in May of 1949. Determined to adapt to his new home, he taught himself English by reading classic comics and was speaking fluently by the time he entered the third grade at St. Casimir's School in Brockton, Mass. He later attended St. Anthony's Lithuanian High School in Kennebunkport, Maine, graduating as both class president and valedictorian. Vincent went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Ancient History and a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from Boston University.

During his time in college, he participated in the ROTC program, earning the designation of Distinguished Military Student and Distinguished Military Graduate. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant, Military Police Corps, and excelled as a pistol and rifle sharpshooter. He also was a National Defense Service Medal recipient. Before completing his studies, he proudly achieved his longtime goal of becoming a U.S. citizen, sponsored by his future bride, Sandra Littlefield. He was assigned to the United States Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., where he served as a corrections officer, adjutant, and company commander of the 1st Guard Company.

Following military service, Vincent began a distinguished 35-year career at Electric Boat. Initially hired as a management development instructor, he steadily advanced to senior leadership roles, including Manager of Salaried Compensation and Director of Employee Services, Employee Benefits, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and Hospital Administration. His final position was Director of Administration. Throughout his career, he was known as an inspiring leader, mentor, and advocate for those he worked with.

Vincent's interests were broad and deeply pursued. He enjoyed stamp collecting, sports cars, history, and world affairs. He could identify military aircraft with remarkable precision, and he relished analyzing and predicting current events with an almost encyclopedic memory.

In retirement, Vincent fulfilled a dream by building a home in Point Judith, R.I., where he found joy in landscaping, decorating, and hosting family and friends. He became known for his delicious clam chowder and French onion soup. He treasured quiet moments by the ocean with his wife-sipping wine, watching the waves, and dining at Spain restaurant. He enjoyed cruises with Sandy and visited many Caribbean Islands. Above all, nothing brought him greater joy than time spent with his beloved family. A visit or phone call from them was always the highlight of his day.

Vincent's passing leaves a profound loss for his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Sandra (Littlefield) Grybauskas. His guidance and love will be missed by his son, John (Jennifer) Grybauskas; his daughter, Kathryn (Chad) Marston; and his treasured grandchildren, Kristen, Jack, and William Grybauskas. He is reunited in peace with his son, Vincent, who predeceased him; surviving are his granddaughter, Chelsea Grybauskas; his great-grandson August, and grandson Maxson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, at St. Mary Star of the Sea, Narragansett, followed by private burial in Massachusetts.
