Wanda Evans Obituary
Poughkeepsie - Wanda McKinney Evans 61,a lifelong resident of the city of Poughkeepsie,died at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie on February 28,2013.Wanda was born June 26,1951 to the late William Van and Alberta Thomas-McKinney.Wanda is predeceased by her husband Ben Evans.Wanda received and completed her education in the Poughkeepsie school district.Wanda was a humanitarian and devoted most of her time to the community.Her passion was cooking,working with the young and the elderly as well as her family.Wanda enjoyed planning parties,cookouts,making Easter baskets and family reunions were on her list of enjoyable celebrations.Wanda would cook and bring meals to feed the sick. She had a food pantry in her home so she could help anyone who had a need in her last days of life.She asked "Who is that in my kitchen",for if you knew Wanda,she did not like anyone playing over the food.
Wanda is survived by her companion Mort Green,four sons and a daughter:Antione McKinney of Syracuse,NY,Ben Evans of Washington,DC,Leabert Russell,Matthew Evans and Latoria McKinney all of Poughkeepsie.Wanda is also survived by four brothers and four sisters:Walter McKinney(Sherry),William McKinney and Levy Lassiter all of Poughkeepsie and Thomas McKinney of Albany,NY;Barbara Williams of Tampa,FL,Linda McClinton of Poughkeepsie,Brenda Ruldolph and Angela Nathan of Brooklyn,NY.Several grandchildren,nieces,nephews,cousins and long time friends.Wanda will lie in repose 10-11am today March 6,at Beulah Baptist Church 92 Catharine Street, Poughkeepsie.Services 11am at the church.Reverend Jesse V. Bottoms will officate.Interment in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery,Poughkeepsie.Professional services entrusted to Rhodes Funeral Homes 43 Fairview Avenue, Poughkeepsie,Ny 12601."Committed To Being The Very Best".Call us anytime at 452-2894 or 452-6143
