William Cash Obituary

Rotonda, W. Fla. - William "Bill" Murray Cash of Rotonda West, Fla., passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with glioblastoma, Oct. 16, 2025 at the Hospice House in Port Charlotte, Fla. He was born in New London to Dorothy (Caird) and Anthony Cash.

Bill attended Waterford schools and grew up near Harkness and Waterford Beach where he spent many of his youthful years.

Upon his graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Army. While serving his time in Vietnam, he was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star with Valor amongst other meritorious medals and was a recipient of the Vietnam Gallantry Cross given on behalf of the South Vietnamese government. He was proud of being in the 1st Cavalry Division with his Pig Iron colleagues and was fortunate to have gotten together with them through reunions and visits.

After the Army, Bill went to work at the New London/Groton Submarine Base where he made some lifetime friends and retired as a construction rep after 38 years. It was at the submarine base where he was also given the Department of the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award for Heroism and Bravery for saving a drowning child's life.

When he retired in 2009, he moved to Rotonda, W. Fla. with his wife Susan and enjoyed beaching, biking, golfing and swimming his laps of a mile and a half just about every day in Englewood where he enjoyed socializing with his friends and sharing stories.

Bill was always actively involved and supportive of his grandsons and was so proud of them. His family was his priority, and they all understood his dry sense of humor . . . they got it.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years Susan Jakobot Cash; a daughter Jennifer Morrison Stober; grandson Ricky Stober of Ft. Worth, Texas; Colby Stober of West Haven; a brother, Richard (Sheila) Cash, of Waterford; and a sister, Joanne Cash, of Canada; along with cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Donations in Bill's name can be made online to the Gary Sinise Foundation.

Arrangements will be made at a later date.

Susan and Family,
Sorry to hear the news of Bill's passing, we had so much fun working at the Subase with Bill and the others from the ROICC office. He was a great guy and friend, we all worked for the Kendland Corp. and the ROICC invited all of us to his retirement party where i think we even met you. i myself cannot say enough good about him and could go on for hours telling stories but he was always someone you could count on and always had your back. so rest in piece my friend it was a pleasure to know you.
