It's difficult to believe that it's been a year since John's passing. This anniversary not only reminds me of the sadness of learning of his passing, but also of the many stories that John told which brings a smile to my face. It reminds me how lucky I was to have know John and Lois and how friendly they were towards a young engineering graduate from Virginia who was a long way from home. My hope is that all who knew John remember him with fondness and it brings a smile to your face. My guess is how John would have wanted it.

I am sorry to hear of Bills passing. Bill worked in my group ( Air Systems ) for several years. He was always upbeat and loved to share his stories with the new hires. I enjoyed my time with Bill as we were in the EBAC golfing league, he was a much better golfer than I was, but we had lots of fun. I had lost touch with him after he retired and am pleased to hear he had a long retirement and was able to do so much with his family, truly a blessing.

I was sorry to hear of John´s passing. He was a mentor and friend to me and countless other young engineers at Electric Boat. He and Lois welcomed me to their home for Thanksgiving dinner my first year in New England. When I accidentally broke off a piece of their spider plant he told me to take it and grow a plant for myself. I still have that spider plant 40+ years later. He would loan "Sweetpea" his green Datsun pickup truck with a rough ride and less than perfect brakes to anyone who needed it. The second time that you needed to come to a stop you knew to start braking plenty early. He had a mechanical aptitude that was second to none and could fix anything mechanical just by looking at the parts. He kept us rolling on the floor with his funny stories from his Navy days especially the one about shining a flashlight into the bunk of one of his sleeping shipmates and playing the sound of a speeding steam locomotive to teach him to stop being late to relive him from watch. I understand it had the desired effect. I´m sure everyone who worked with John would have similar stories to tell. He was one of the good guys and a great role model. From the stories he would tell about raising his family it was clear that family was important to him. I offer my condolences to Lois, Leslie and Wendy.
