William Meehan Obituary

Waterford - William J. Meehan, 82, of Waterford, entered eternal life on June 14, 2015, in the company of his loving family.

He was born June 27, 1932, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Frank and Helen Meehan. He attended schools in Ohio, and upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Meehan was a Korean War veteran and after serving 20 years, he retired at the rank of master in chief.

He was united in marriage to the former Geraldine "Jerri" Luzzi on May 27, 1960, in St. Joseph Church. Mrs. Meehan passed away on Oct. 12, 1988.

Mr. Meehan retired from Pfizer Inc. after 20 years of service. He was a youth baseball coach in the Waterford North Little League and served as president. In 1990 Mr. Meehan received the Outstanding Contribution Award from Waterford Babe Ruth. He was an avid volunteer at the Waterford North Little League and received the Volunteer of the Year Award in 1997. For his contributions to the league, a field was named in his honor. In 1999, he received a Proclamation from the Town of Waterford as Bill Meehan Day. In 2002 Mr. Meehan received the Town of Waterford Citizen of the Year Award.

He is survived by his four children, William "BJ" Meehan Jr. and wife, Danielle, of Oakdale, Lori Frausini and husband, Bill, of Waterford, Cheryl Meehan of Norwich, and Wendy Liberio and husband, Barry, of Yulee, Fla.; two sisters, Patricia Berry of Columbus, Ohio and Rita Boyer of Dallas,Texas; eight grandchildren, Gina and Marco Frausini, Jessica Liberio, Olivia, Alexis, Mason, and Joseph Meehan, Jeremy Felt.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Jeannie Cunningan and Barbara Kelly.

His family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today, June 17, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. Family and friends are asked to gather for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Thursday in St. Joseph Church, 17 Squire St., New London. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery with military honors.

Mr. Meehan was such a great part of my childhood and young adulthood. Such a wonderful human being, who always asked how you were doing and showed genuine care. From little league, to babe ruth, to high school, and through college. My deepest sympathies for the family. He will be missed and made incredible impact on many individuals.
