Arlene George Obituary

Arlene Leonora George, 91, passed away peacefully in Rancho Mirage on August 24, 2013. She was born in Kingsburg, California, the daughter of Lawrence and Leonora Long Waters. The family moved a lot as her father worked for canneries up and down California. Besides Kingsburg they lived in Porterville, Riverside, Reseda, and Ontario. She met her husband, Jack George, when she joined 4-H at age twelve. Jack and Arlene both attended Vina Danks Junior High School and Chaffey High School in Ontario. When they started dating he wasn't old enough for a driver's license so his parents would bring him to Lynn Haven Court in Ontario where Arlene lived. Then they would walk to the theater together to see a movie. After the show his parents would pick him up. Jack and Arlene started going steady when they were about 15 or 16. While attending high school she worked as a cashier at a theater box office and then as a dental assistant. Arlene and Jack were married in 1941 and during World War II she found secretarial jobs wherever he was stationed until he went overseas. After the war they built an adobe house in Montclair and became active in the community. Arlene served as president of the Monte Vista Elementary School PTA and was a cub scout den mother while her children were young. About 1958 she attended night school in Pasadena and earned her solicitor's license to sell insurance at the Jack C. George Insurance Agency in Montclair. She retired from that in 1972. She and her husband loved to play golf and were members of the Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga and then Sunrise Country Club in Rancho Mirage. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Jack George; daughter Dee Seitel (Steve); son John George (Patty); grandchildren Tom and Julie Seitel, John George and Susanna Morgan; eight great-grandchildren; her sister Phyllis Pollick, sister-in-law Mary Sagehorn and numerous nieces and nephews. At her request her ashes have been scattered at sea and there will be no service.
