Palm Springs - Arlene Donna Harris passed away of natural causes on June 19, 2019. Arlene was born on March 22, 1929 to Samuel and Doris Goldman in Duluth, Minn. She married Sherman Harris on February 20, 1949. Looking to escape the cold winters, they moved to Palm Springs in 1953. Arlene chose to stay home with her children until they were all off on their own. She then went to work as a manicurist, until she retired in 2000. Arlene had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was the "neighborhood mom" to all her children's friends. She was devoted to her children always. Her bubbly, carefree attitude was a welcome door for everyone to talk to her. Arlene loved life. Friends described her as very loving, caring, witty ageless, and a true classic beauty. Arlene is survived by her son Samuel Harris (daughter-in-law Abbie); daughter, Janet Harris; grandchildren, Matthew Power (granddaughter-in-law Esther), Charles Harris, and Raquel Harris; great-grandchildren, Dalani and Tucker Power. She was preceded in death by her son Charles Harris. Arlene will be missed by all who knew her. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the National Kidney Foundation of Southern California, 15490 Ventura Blvd., Suite 210, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403. Phone number is 848-783-8153. The Harris's were our neighbors also. We lived across the field,on McManus. Sam was my first best friend too. My folks ,John and June SaviLLe really liked each of them. We ate At Sherman's Steakhouse and Deli as a Go To Great place to Eat. We really appreciate your friendship Arlene. You were one great GaL. And it was very heart warming to see Sam and Janet took over Sherman's. Chuck was a genuine person who always had a smile, just like Arlene.

Arlene Harris was Beautiful!!! I used to live across the street from Mrs. Harris in the early '60's. Her son, Sam, was my best friend when we were under 6 years of age. If my memory serves me, Mrs. Harris drove a white Mercury Comet and I thought she looked so pretty and cool when she would park the car and wave to us before going into her house. One year she proudly showed me her family's large lighted Hanukkah Star of David that they displayed which contrasted our annual Christmas Tree. She taught me how special Jews are. Arlene Harris was a very kind, wonderful lady and will be missed by all of us!!!

To Sam and all of Arlene's family, my sincere condolences. I knew of Arlene through the clearest lens of all, her dear husband, Sherman. His eyes always twinkled, but more so when he spoke of her. The memories I have might be old, but are undiminished. It's those type of memories that help all families through these sad times. My fondest wishes in your time of sorrow.

If you know Janet and Sam you'll recognize the huge heart that their Mom passed onto them. I had many laughs with Arlene and one day brings fond memories of my Mom, Arlene, Janet and I laughing away on booth nine...... Rest in peace Arlene and to the family have peace in knowing she's in the best place she could be. God Bless Janet, Sam and their families as they endure their loss.

Arlene was my neighbor for many years. I have many fond memories of her kind friendship, motherly advice and hilariously fun chats by the mailbox.
Arlene was a great lady. She was a true-blue genuine woman from the Greatest Generation who wasn't afraid to tell it like it is.
Arlene was as much a part of Casa Verde as the beauty of the mountains we both marveled in from our corner of Palm Springs. The memory of Arlene will always be a part of Casa Verde, and everyone who is fortunate enough to remember the firecracker who was Arlene Harris.
I look forward to seeing you again someday Arlene. Let's meet at the mailbox, shall we?
