was surrounded by family, friends and his loving wife of 31 years, Dottie McEwan.
Charlie was born in Depue, IL on May 11, 1935. He grew up in San Francisco, CA and graduated from Mission
High School in 1953. Upon graduation, he married Barbara Koslosky and joined the army in 1954. During this time he was stationed at Ford Bliss, El Paso, TX. He left the service in 1956. Charlie and Barbara had 4
children and were divorced in 1975.
Upon leaving the service, Charlie joined Philco in Palo Alto, CA as a field engineer. He was then relocated to New Boston, New Hampshire to work at the Philco Tracking station. He returned to San Jose, CA in 1967 and went to work for Data Disc Corporation.
Charlie was an innovator and had a vision that color graphics could revolutionize the medical scanning industry. When his company didn't share the same vision, Charlie set out on his own and in 1974 he founded Ramtek Corporation. It was the first color graphics company of its kind. To help meet expenses during the early years, they also built some of the first coin-op video games, successfully going head-to-head with Atari.
These were very exciting times and it was during this time that he met the love of his life, Dottie, who had two small children of her own.
Charlie had a genuine passion for the great outdoors and loved adventure and sports. He was a boating enthusiast and, with Dottie, had many adventures on the boats that they owned over the years. He also loved sport fishing, hunting, camping and traveling. In 1986, for health reasons, Charlie retired to Palm Desert, so that he could take advantage of his love for golf and the outdoors.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Dottie; his children: Marcia Israelson, Kenneth McEwan, Christy Coxe, Richard McEwan, and Sandra McEwan; his brother, Melvin McEwan; his grandchildren: Eric Israelson, Nicole Coxe, Rachel Baird, and Mathew McEwan; and his 4 great-grandchildren: Brittany, Sabrina, and Mason Israelson and Dylan Baird. He was predeceased by his son, Stephen McEwan.
