Daniel Updyke Obituary

Daniel Robert Updyke, 66, of Palm Desert, passed away on Nov. 19, 2014, in Palm Springs, California. He was born in Fullerton, California, along with his twin sister, Julie Anne, on Sept. 25, 1948. He was very active in sports throughout his life, playing football and baseball at Fullerton Union High School in Fullerton, where he graduated in 1966. After graduation, Dan worked at Coast Pontiac but spent every free moment on the golf course. Dan was drafted and spent two years as an Army sergeant during the Vietnam War. Upon his return he continued to work in the auto industry and became the general manager of Frahm Dodge in Norco, California. Dan carried that passion for golf with him throughout the rest of his life and was very well known in the world of golf. He was a longtime member of the Indian Wells Country Club where he won the club championship one year. Dan had been married and divorced. He leaves behind his father, Robert Frank Updyke (Doris) of Palm Desert; his mother, Marian Carolyn Morgan of Hemet, California; his brother Dr. Timothy Updyke (Christine); half-brother Dr. William Updyke (Diane); half-sister Jill Updyke Lee (Anthony); four nephews; and a niece. His sister, Julie Anne, preceded him in death. A gathering of friends and family was held in his honor at Indian Wells Country Club on Dec. 5, 2014. At his request, there will be a private family service.

Danny and I were friends and I remember all those days we played over the line at Ford school. I wish I had of connected with him later on. He was genuine and a good person!

I'm sadened to hear of my friends passing. We knew each other since 3rd grade at Ford school in fullerton and of course his brother Tim and sister Julie as well. Great golfer and just a fun guy. great memories high jumping in the lot across the street from their house and just doing anything athletic. We'll miss him

So sorry and sad to hear that Danny has passed away. I knew him from both the desert and the South Bay area. He was a great guy and lots of fun. God speed Danny!
