Elizabeth "Liz" Leon, 15, of Indio, Calif., passed away on January 4th, 2017 in Indio. She was born on April 1st, 2001, to Sugey Leon in Mexicali, Baja California. Liz was a sophomore at Indio High School where she played soccer. She attended middle school at Desert Ridge Academy where she was part of the school's Renaissance Leadership Program. She was a natural leader and an excellent student. She had the goal of attending college and becoming a probation officer. Liz was taking classes for her confirmation at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. She was known for her big smile and helping others. She was full of life and brought the sunshine with her. Her mother described her as her strength, right-hand, star, and reason for living. Liz loved her family and friends. Liz is survived by: her mother, Sugey Leon; stepfather, Fernando "Nano" Venegas; siblings: Zugeyli Castro, Chris Venegas, and Fernando Venegas all from Indio; and grandmother, Isabel Rodriguez of Mexicali, Baja California. The viewing will take place in the chapel at Forest Lawn in Indio on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm. There will be a rosary prayed during the viewing from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm. The church service will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Indio and burial following immediately after at Coachella Valley Cemetery in Coachella, Calif.
