Dear Barbara snd Family,
Gene was my "mentor judge" and my very best and first friend I had on the Bench. Then I had the great honor and joy of meeting Barbara and the family. Then on to golf. What fun. I will always remember Gene and smile.

My very dear friend, Barbara. I am saddened to hear of Gene's death--he was a very special friend. I only knew him from his desert life, and even in that short of a time, I knew he was very special, and a wonderful man. He will be missed. My love to you and your family.

So sorry to hear of Gene's death. We'd known each other from long before Notre Dame, where we roomed together for one semester. St. Anthony's in Long Beach also. Probobly about 1938. He, and all of you, are in our prayers
