Geraldine Lake Obituary

Geraldine Rohner Lake

Geraldine Rohner Lake passed away Tuesday morning April 14, 2015 at the age of 82, in Palm Springs, California.

Geri, as she was called, was born November 29, 1932 to Alfred Eugene and Lavena Lines Rohner in Inglewood, California. She was born during the great depression but she had a very delightful and joyful childhood. Her mother and father were wonderful parents and her younger brother Wilbur was her best friend. She also had two older brothers, Kay and Cal, whom she cherished.

She graduated from Inglewood High School and attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She held leadership positions her junior and senior years in high school and was in the Spanish Club. At Brigham Young University she belonged to the Maori Club. She was involved in many plays, dances, and productions created by these Clubs.

She married John Herbert Lake September 6, 1952 in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple. They lived in Los Angeles while John (Jack) went to USC Dental School. They had three children while living in Los Angeles. After dental school they moved to Palm Springs, California where they have resided ever since. Three more children blessed this union making a total of six children who kept Geri very busy as a young mother. She also raised three foster children whom she loved and cared for as her own.

Geri had many struggles in her life that strengthened her and made her kind, patient, humble, and compassionate. She faced each new challenge with optimism, determination, and joy. Her belief in God helped her accept and graciously endure these trials. Her example will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Throughout her life she has been a great support to her husband. He served on many boards in the Community of Palm Springs and in the State. She was the encouraging partner who made it possible for him to serve.

Her life truly has been one of dedicated service. She held many callings in various church organizations as she served women, youth, and children. Additionally, she and Jack worked 18 years as workers in Los Angeles, San Diego, and Redlands Temples. She has always helped those in need and has done all she could to relieve the suffering and pain of others even when she was experiencing the same.

Family has been everything to Geri. Children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have been an abundant blessing to her. She never stopped loving the excitement of watching a child receive gifts. She continued to have child-like joy in life, relationships, and everything she did. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, John Herbert Lake, all of her children, Steven (Lucy) Lake, Craig (Ruth) Lake, Robert (Madelyn) Lake all of Palm Springs, and Jacque (Brent) Lee of Burley, Idaho and Jody (John) Jeppsen of Boulder City, Nevada, and Richard (Tracy) Lake of Plumas Lake, California, 27 Grandchildren and 30 Great Grandchildren, and brother Wilbur (Zoe) Rohner of Palm Springs, California.

The Funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday April 18, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1400 N. Avenida Caballeros, Palm Springs, California. Visitations will be Friday Evening 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1400 N. Avenida Caballeros, Palm Springs, California. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Operation Underground Railroad. Services are entrusted to Wiefels & Son Funeral Home.
