Dr. Harry Mills Schneider Jr.

Palm Desert - Dr. Harry Mills Schneider Jr. was born March 14, 1954 in Atlanta Georgia to Harry Mills and Ruthmary W. Schneider. Harry was not alone for long when his bother Larry joined the family on August 21, 1955. In 1958 Harry, Larry, and their mother moved to California. Harry grew up playing baseball a lot because of his father's love for the game and in the 1970s received a Triple A contract offer from the Minnesota Twins. He also enjoyed tennis, waterskiing, basketball, and golf. Harry graduated from La Sierra Academy in 1972 and went on to become a teacher in physical eduction. On December 15, 1977 Harry married Karen Dortch and they moved to Loma Linda where Karen completed her nursing degree and Harry graduated from Loma Linda University Dental School in 1984. In 1986 they moved to Palm Desert, California for Harry's work and later that year they welcomed their son Eric on August 16. Harry enjoyed playing golf and basketball in the valley where he met many of his close friends and made many fond memories. He was a devoted dad and enjoyed sharing his love of sports with his son. Harry was the basketball team statistician and golf coach at Desert Christian Academy for seven years. His love of sports was seen through his many golf swing tips and his dedication to the kids he coached. Harry practiced dentistry in the desert for 30 years and was greatly loved by his many patients. Many of his close friends started out as patients in his dental chair. He experienced increasing health challenges later in life and passed away suddenly on September 16, 2018 surrounded by his beloved family and friends.

Harry, you will always be remembered for your generous heart and for your dedication to your family, friends and patients. You were seen as a father figure for many, always willing to give a swing tip in golf or a positive word of encouragement. You were always there for us. Thank you for giving of yourself so freely for the benefit of us all. We will miss you always. He is survived by his mother Ruthmary, wife Karen, son Eric and daughter-in law Michelle. Services will be held at the Palm Desert Seventh Day Adventist Church on October 14, 2018 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
