Jan Kerrigan Merriman

Palm Desert - Jan Kerrigan Merriman, of Palm Desert, California, passed away suddenly on March 27, 2021. Jan was born on December 24, 1938 in San Francisco, California to George and Winifred Kerrigan (both deceased).

Jan grew up in Northern California, attending Dominican Convent Boarding School through high school. She then attended San Jose State University where she was elected the SJSU's "Most Likeable Doll". After college, Jan went to work for AT&T in management, then moved to a career in travel as an Airline Stewardess for American Airlines. She continued her education at Chapman University, earning a degree in Criminal Justice, which she put to good use in the next stage in her career in the criminal justice system. Jan then opened and operated an antiques business in Oakhurst, California for many years.

She retired to Marin County, California, and enjoyed a life filled with friends, books, and tennis. It was there she met the love of her life, her husband Philip Merriman. Jan and Philip enjoyed an active life together, full of travel and laughter, until his death in 2002.

Jan later moved to Palm Desert and continued to be an avid tennis player and sports enthusiast. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed sharing books with her ladies' book group. She had a love for all animals, especially for her Vizsla dogs, who filled her daily life with joy and happiness.

Jan is survived by her brother Tim Kerrigan, her sister-in-law Dawn Kerrigan, nephews Tim Kerrigan and his wife Nanci, Scan Kerrigan, and Kelly Kerrigan and his wife Christina, step daughters Katherine Burke Merriman and Emily Porter Merriman, granddaughter Elsabet Merriman, grandsons Bentley and Davis Lanterman by stepdaughter Margaret Merriman Lanterman who predeceased her, and other loving family members and friends.

Jan was a loving wife, sister, aunt, stepmother, grandmother, and a devoted friend to many. Her sharp mind, quick humor, and big heart will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

Services will be private.
