Jeanette Berman of Beverly Hills and Palm Desert was born in New York on Sept. 25, 1930, to Miriam and Harry Forman. In 1948, Jeanette and her family moved to California. Jeanette and her late husband, Hal Berman, met on a blind date on Aug. 13, 1948, and married on March 6, 1949. The couple was married for almost 64 years. The family was blessed with three sons, Morey, Steven (Cynthia), Howard (Kathi) and a daughter, Brenda. They have six grandchildren, Lakota, Dustin, Haley, Matthew, Miles and Alexa. Jeanette was an avid reader and enjoyed all types of athletics. She was a good tennis player and exercised religiously. At one time Jeanette thought she would become a nurse but instead devoted herself to raising a family. Once the children were older, she continued her education and attended college, where she majored in psychology along with sociology and anthropology. Prior to moving to the desert, Jeanette volunteered for six years at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, where she was a part of the hospital's Heart Family Division, visiting with cardiac patients and spending time with their families. In June 1994, Jeanette and Hal joined Eisenhower Hospital as volunteers, quickly becoming an asset to the hospital. Jeanette divided her time as a patient representative, attending to patients in two wings of the hospital, working at The Barbara Sinatra Children's Center, and assisting in the therapy pool. Jeanette loved helping people. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Services will be held on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at Forest Lawn Cathedral City. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
