Joan Shader Obituary

Joan Beryl Shader passed away in Rancho La Quinta, Calif. on November 2, 2010. She was born on July 18, 1939 in Torrance, Calif. to George and Vera Spomer. Joan is survived by her husband of 24 years, David; four children, Pamela Hamilton (Hardy), Susan Boswell (Randy), Krista Powers (Matt) and Eric Hallisey; and stepdaughter, Pamela Conti (Jim). She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Ryan Thomas, Brett Thomas, Tara Van Dyk, Alissa Van Dyk, Leanna Van Dyk, Brandon Van Dyk, Justin Van Dyk, Madison Powers, Parker Powers, Mia Conti and one great-grandchild, Nevaeh Van Dyk. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Spomer (Kathy) and nephew, Scott Spomer (Dee) and grandnephews, Owen and Wesley. Joan graduated from Fullerton Community College suma cum laude with a degree in Interior Design. She was a partner in two design firms. She was a well-read woman with many interests and passions. While her hobbies included decorating, gardening, traveling, cooking and entertaining, she will be remembered most for instilling her thirst for knowledge in her grandchildren and her love of reading, history, and the arts. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, November 12, 2010 at Southwest Community Church, 77-701 Fred Waring Drive, Indian Wells, CA 92210. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to OCF-OCF (Orange County Foundation for Oncology Children and Families), PO Box 6023, Orange, CA 92863 where her daughter, Krista, has been involved for 25 years, or your favorite cancer charity.
