John Probst Obituary

John Raymond Probst

1935-2016

John Probst passed away peacefully January 15th in Palm Desert, California. He was born on February 14th, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois to Lola Belle Dean and Jack Probst. Growing up, John enjoyed competitive go-karting with his brother Gary and was into many other sports. He began work at a young age in Roll Form manufacturing. He married Nancy Puettner in 1955 and had three daughters, Patti, Cathy, and Caryn. Developing a passion for Roll Form, he spent 40 years in the industry and retired as Senior Vice President at Pyramid Mouldings in Chicago, IL.

After retiring, he and Nancy moved to Palm Springs, CA. He was then able to play golf often, which he was so passionate about, and he loved when his family would come out to visit and vacation. John is survived by Nancy, the love of his life for 60 years, loving father of Patti Scherwey, Cathy (Kenny) McCudden and Caryn (Steve) Sprovieri. Wonderful grandfather of Edgar (Kazue) Scherwey, Adrien Scherwey, Danielle Sprovieri and Alec Sprovieri. He is also survived by his younger brother Gary Probst and nieces Jeanette (Jay) Doil and Deborah Probst.

John was a sports enthusiast, loved a good joke, enjoyed working on projects around the house, and will be missed by their three cats Riley, Jasmine and Chloe, who gave him much joy.

When it came to his family, he was always there to give advice and tell them just how proud he was of them.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

We met John and Nancy several years ago when we were new in Palm Springs and enjoyed dinners and spending time with them. John was a wonderful man and had such a great personality. He was so much fun to be around and we will miss his wit and charm. It was a pleasure to have known him. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time. Love, Marilyn & Steve Audette

Carol/Jerry Newton/Millard

January 23, 2016

Jerry Millard so appreciated John for being the first to say Hi and introduce him to the Mesquite Country Club Men's group. He was a very good friend that took the time with new players and members. He also regularly joined both Jerry and also Carol Newton on the golf course encouraging both of us beginners. He always had good things to say and always spoke well of his beloved Nancy. They continued to keep in touch and many of our dinners were always filled with chatter about their cats and their feral cats which they looked after and would spend the time to see that they were spayed and neutered. We also included some of our stories about the kitties at the Palm Springs Animal Shelter were we volunteered. John will be so missed by us.
