John Hewitt Willoughby
John Hewitt Willoughby, 81, of Desert Hot Springs died at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs on Saturday, February 4, 2007.

Mr. Willoughby was born October 31, 1925 in Philadelphia, Penn. to John Hewitt Willoughby, Sr and Bertha Thelina (Dunkin) Willoughby.

He served as a Salvage and Deep Sea Scuba Diver in the Navy for 21 years. He served aboard the USS Arttie, USS Grimes, USS Chanticleer, USS Seneca, USS Sperry, and USS Curant. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, American Area and Asiatic Pacific, Campaign Medals, United Nations, National and Korean Service Medals and six Good Conduct Medals. Upon retiring from the Navy, he worked for many years as a packer for Budweiser Beer at Anheuser Busch Brewing Co.

On July 7, 2005 he married Elizabeth Helga Schellerer in Arizona.

Mr. Willoughby is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Willoughby of Desert Hot Springs, his daughter Leslie Hunter of Riverside, his stepdaughter Donna B. King of Saugus and four grandchildren.

A graveside funeral service with full military honors will be held at 11 am on Thursday, February 8, 2007 at Riverside National Cemetery with Rose Mortuary of Desert Hot Springs in charge of arrangements
