Jose Angel Marquez Calderon

Indio - Jose Angel Calderon,71, passed away peacefully at home on September 16, 2019, surrounded by his devoted family.

Jose was born July 20, 1948 in Hanford, CA to Phillip and Concepcion Calderon, the first of six children. His family moved to the Coachella Valley when he was in the 4th grade. He attended Palm View Elementary, Dateland Jr High and Coachella Valley High School, class of 1967. He married the love of his life, Betty Araiza, in 1967 and together they raised four daughters. He was drafted into the Army in 1968.

Jose was a California Certified Nurseryman for over 30 years, having worked for Neel's Nursery, Foster Turf, Environmental Landscape and Cameron Nursery. He was well known in the Nursery industry, making lifelong friends in the process. He loved being outdoors, loved his plants, spending almost every Saturday working on his yard.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty, his 3 daughters Melissa Calderon, Renee (Joaquin) Rosales, and Cristina Calderon, nephew Andrew Pena, grandsons Asher Isquierdo, Philip Soto-Calderon, Joseph Rosales. Step-Grandsons Joaquin (Megan) and Robert Rosales and Step-Great Granddaughter Sofia Rosales. His siblings Lupe (Rosa) Calderon of Desert Hot Springs, CA., Martha Modesto of Indio, CA., Juana Ortiz of Lemoore, CA., and Carlos (San Juana) Calderon of Bakersfield, CA. He is also survived by his beloved Godchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Veronica Lynn, his parents Phillip and Concepcion, and brother Philip Jr.

Services will be held October 25, 2019 at Our Lady of Soledad Catholic Church at 11:00 am with burial immediately following at Coachella Valley Cemetery in Coachella, CA.
