Passed peacefully December 23rd, 2020 in Rancho Mirage, CA.
Joseph is survived by his husband of 30 years, Dr. James K. Barry of Rancho Mirage, his father Joseph M. Walker and his brother Connally J. Walker of Lafayette, LA. Joseph was preceded in death by his mother Ardyce Nix Walker. Joseph was born February 16th, 1966 in Alexandria, VA. As a young man, Joe worked at the original Popeye's Chicken, then as a server at Arno's and Commander's Palace in New Orleans French Quarter. After meeting James on Ash Wednesday at Mardi Gras in 1990, Joseph came for a visit to CA later that year, and chose to make it his home. Joe relished the opportunity to touch the lives of so many people, as he grew his career at the Hazelden Betty Ford Center, where he managed patient access coordination for the WEST Coast Region. Joe will be missed always and all-ways. …

The passing of my oldest son leaves me saddened, and challenged to choose words that express my thoughts and feelings. I remember his positive attitude, and I believe that people gravitated toward Joe through his ability to look for solutions, and his hope and optimism toward life. He was always determined, and excelled in his recovery, even when things seemed difficult, once a Walker always-a-walker.
I am proud of my son, his accomplishments, and his many gifts to those he loved and worked with.

Joe will be missed greatly by his friends and co-workers. He touched so many lives in such a positive way through his work and will be remembered as a kind and caring man. I am so grateful I had the pleasure to get to know him and work with him for so many years. Sending my sincerest condolences to James and his loved ones.

James, we are so saddened to hear of the Joe’s passing. He will be missed. He helped so many people though out his 13 years at the center. I really appreciated the many lunch conversations we had.
