Larry Lloyd Obituary

Larry L. "Lou" Lloyd

June 19, 1939 - April 10, 2012

Larry "Lou" Lloyd of Bermuda Dunes, Calif. passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 due to complications arising from his battle with Cancer at the age of 72. He passed peacefully with his son Larry L. Lloyd, Jr. and his daughter-in-law Linda Lloyd at his side. Lou was born on June 19, 1939 in the shadow of the Teton Mountains in Driggs, Idaho to Joseph and Carmen Lloyd and was the sixth of ten brothers and sisters. He graduated from Teton High School in 1957 where he played football and was an amateur boxer. He began his career in the printing and publishing industry setting type at the Teton Valley News in Driggs as a young teenager. After high school, he moved to Southern California where he continued in the printing industry. It was in El Monte where he met the love of his life, Carol Ann Bermudez, and the two were married on March 18, 1962. Just 3 weeks before his passing, the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Lou changed careers in the early 1960's when he began working for Sun Life of Canada in Los Angeles. His distinguished career with the company lasted until his death. Over these years he held many positions including a two-year tour of the company's headquarters in Montreal, Canada and he became a life-time member of the industry's Million Dollar Round Table. Despite moving from Idaho as a teenager, he never lost his love for the simple ranching and farming life he left behind. He spent many summers escaping the big city hustle and bustle as well as the desert heat by visiting with his brother Farrell on his ranch in Bozeman, Montana, baling hay, riding horses, rustling up cattle and generally acting like a cowboy. Ever the charmer, he was even able to get his wife, a city girl whom he loving referred to simply as "Babe", to ride horses and fish for trout on their trips. He also had a passion for golf which he managed to pass on to his son Larry. His home away from home was the Indian Springs golf course where he became a course Marshall and took countless lessons in an unending quest to improve his swing and scores (and, undoubtedly, gave many wayward golfers some advice about pace of play). Lou and Carol spent the last 14 years living within the gates of the Bermuda Dunes Country Club where he was active on the Security Committee and enjoyed many clubhouse social occasions with numerous friends. He is survived by his wife, Carol; son Larry and his wife Linda in Fullerton, Calif., and his daughter Stacey Erwin and her husband Eric in Indio, Calif. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Garrett, Sarah and Kaitlyn, and his remaining brothers and sisters, Donna Bingham, Brent Lloyd, Kenneth Lloyd, Sue Rau, Lee Lloyd and Cathy Corwin. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, David Lloyd, Farrell Lloyd, and Phillip Lloyd. Services celebrating Lou's life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the LDS Church at 40840 Washington Street, Bermuda Dunes, CA 92203; a lunch reception will follow at the church. The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations instead be made to the Barbara Sinatra Children's Center, 39000 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270-3235.

Lou's death was such a shock to me. I wondered why I hadn't seen you around this season. I just got an email from him a couple of weeks ago. He was such a nice guy. I loved having him on the social committee at BDCC. My heart goes out to you Carol and to your family. I just had oral surgery or I would be at The Celebration of Life. Hopefully your treasured memories will help you get through this difficult time. It was always my intention to get to know you better. Margie and Frank Dingfelder
