Leonard Rasmussen

Leonard Rasmussen passed away on Wed., Feb. 4, 2009. He was born June 6, 1912 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Adolph Rasmussen and Gussie Rickman Rasmussen. His mother died when he was six years old from the 1918 flu epidemic. He was preceded in death by an older sister, Mildred, and a younger sister, Lucille. His father brought the family to California in June 1926. Leonard and his sisters attended Montebello High School where he met his future bride, Idabel, who was also from Council Bluffs, Iowa. They married in 1935 and were married for 65 years. Idabel died in 2000. They had a son, Gary, and a daughter, Diane Rasmussen Daniel. Leonard served as Master of both the Montebello and Whittier Masonic Blue Lodges. He was also active in the Montebello Lions Club and other civic organizations. He leaves behind his son and daughter; two grandsons, Kelly Daniel (Jeanie) and Bryan Daniel (Sally); a granddaughter, Erin Daniel Huggard (Mark); one great grandson, Adam and six great granddaughters, Sheena, Ashley, Danielle, Lacey, Kyla and Jaden; one great, great granddaughter, Marilyn. A seventh great granddaughter, Jessica, died in 2000. A memorial will be held at Palm Desert Greens Country Club on Sat., March 7, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Donations to the American Cancer Society, or Masonic Homes Endowment Fund, Whittier Masonic Temple, 7604 Greenleaf Ave., Whittier, CA 90602 are requested in lieu of flowers.
