Noel Gillette Obituary
Palm Desert - Noel G. Gillette, a long time resident of the desert, passed away on October 8, 2019.
He was born on October 27, 1931 in Meriden, Connecticut, and shortly after relocated with his family to Long Beach, Ca., where his father worked at the Naval Shipyard.
Later he and his family moved to Yucca Valley, where he attended Twenty Nine Palms High and graduated in 1949, in a class of 16 students. He served in the United States Air Force for four years as a military policeman in Germany and after his service he moved back to Palm Springs where he met and married Gloria Welmas, his wife of 54 years. He adopted her 3 small children from a previous marriage, Robert, Linda, and Anthony and loved and raised them as his own. He worked for Desert Air conditioning for 30 years, taking a break in 1968 to move to Wilson, Wyo, just outside of Jackson Hole and, in a log cabin he built, lived with Gloria and raised their young daughter, Robyn.
He always said that to move there was the best decision he ever made. He worked construction, enjoyed ice fishing, and won several awards trap shooting.
After 10 years they moved back to Palm Springs where he continued to work for Desert Air Conditioning until he retired.
He loved traveling around the Southwest with Gloria in their RV and after living in Yucca Valley for a time, they eventually moved back to Palm Desert. He was a regular at the Agua Caliente Casino where he played poker and loved the nickel slot machines.
He had a mischievous sense of humor and is remembered for always having a joke ready. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father and Uncle NoNo to his nieces and nephews and will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Gloria, his daughters, Robyn Swanson and husband Jeff, of Berkeley, Ca.,Linda Gillette of Kamuela, Hawaii, 5 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren. No services are planned at this time.
