Ray Patencio Obituary

Ray Leonard Patencio, Jr.

Palm Springs - Ray Leonard Patencio Jr.,son of Ray Leonard Patencio (Deceased) and Mildred L Browne, Ray Leonard Patencio Jr. unexpectedly passed away April 17, 2020. As a member of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and lifetime resident of Palm Springs, California, Ray was a true hometown local. He attended local Catholic Church services, all local schools until graduating from high school. Like many people, when he was young, he worked several jobs around town, everything from rental car guy to helping with horse drawn carriages in downtown Palm Springs. Known for his friendliness, Ray was a favorite customer in many local restaurants and businesses, but many people are most familiar with Ray from his longtime employment at the Spa Resort Casino. Ray began working there before the doors opened, he was part of the opening team and served in a few positions within the casino for 22 years before retiring. Ray was a tribal Bird Singer and throughout his life he loved to spend his days hiking in the desert and along the palm filled trails of the Indian Canyons. He enjoyed many things like karate, travel, music, loud cars, dancing and fun but the thing he loved most was his family. Dedicated to those he loved, Ray worked hard, tried his best and was guided by his faith, kindness and open heart. Ray will be greatly missed. Ray is survived by his son Shane Patencio, fiancé Rebecca Lara, parents Mildred and Dave Browne, his sister and brother in law Candace and Eric, brother John, sister and brother in law Alycia and Reuben and brother Fred Morris Jr. along with his nieces, Taylor (Richard) and Amara and nephews Gavin, Michael and Atom. Due to current health protocols, the burial service will be private but a memorial service to commemorate Ray's life will be announced at a later date.
