Ray Winterhalter Obituary

Ray Winterhalter

Ray Wilbur Winterhalter (89) died peacefully at his home in the Coachella Valley on July 26th after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

Ray is survived by his loving wife, Linda; brother, William Winterhalter; nephews Michael (Jill) and Stephen Winterhalter; niece Elizabeth Winterhalter as well as stepsons Randy Martin and Jason (Kate) Martin.

Ray was born on November 11, 1927 in Evanston, Illinois to Charles and Elizabeth Winterhalter. He attended Elliot Jr. High in Pasadena, CA and Midland Prep School in Los Olivos, CA. He went on to attend Stanford University and was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon Chapter. While attending Stanford, Ray lettered as a star 2nd baseman for the Cardinals and graduated in 1950 with a degree in Finance.

After graduating he served in the Korean War from 1951-1953 as a Private First Class ERC stationed in Japan. He then moved to the Los Angeles area and worked for Pittsburg Plate and Glass for over 31 years as a Regional Sales Manager and was instrumental in introducing fiberglass to the Asian market. Due to his early success and accomplishments, he was able to retire at the age of 58 to pursue his love of surfing, golfing and tennis.

Ray was not only an accomplished baseball player, but he also excelled at tennis and golf. His love for the ocean lead him on numerous adventures with his brother, traveling and surfing in many exotic locations. He enjoyed gambling and was very good at rolling dice, often winning at Poker, Gin Rummy and Craps.

Ray and Linda married in 1998. Together they enjoyed traveling and led an active and exciting lifestyle.

Ray was a very kind man and is loved by many. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Dana Point area, where Ray enjoyed spending much of his time. The exact date and location will be announced at a later time.

This saddens me very much. I first met Ray many years ago before he moved to the Coachella Valley. He was a very loyal client and friend,
and I will miss him. My condolences to Linda and the other family members.
