Richard, 74, Indian Wells resident, passed away on February 12, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. Born to Clyde and Audrey Swanson in St. Louis, Missouri. Rich was a Chemical Engineer, graduating from Missouri University Science and Technology, member Sigma Pi Fraternity, Alpha Iota Chapter. Most of Rich's career was in management in chemical industry; first associated with Monsanto Company as a general supt., then VP operations, Aerojet General. Majority of career was with Flecto Company (Varathane) as President and CEO of manufacturing facilities in Oakland, Calif. and Vancouver, B.C., retiring from Flecto in 1999. Rich and his wife, Ruth, traveled extensively during their 40 year marriage, visiting many foreign countries, and all states in the US during their many drives cross country in their RV and SUV. Even as a young man, Rich was active in serving his community and charitable organizations. He was an Eagle Scout, served in elected offices in the community of Diablo, Calif. (DPOA) and Indian Wells (FAMD), He served as a board member and president of Diablo Country Club; chair of MGA, Indian Wells Country Club; served on BOD of YMCA, Palm Desert. Rich is survived by his wife, Ruth, nieces, nephews and loving in-laws. Preceded in death by his parents, Audrey and Clyde and brother, Robert. Rich cherished his many friends and enjoyed his "Early Birds" golf group at IWCC. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his loving wife Ruth and his faithful furry companion "Ginnie." RIP Rich, thank you for your mentoring, guidance and goodwill. My years spent with you at Flecto in Canada will always be part of me and my family. Condolance to all of your fsmily and friends
