Thomas Allen Obituary

Thomas P. Allen Jr.

1927-2015

Thomas P. Allen Jr., a man who loved compassionately, trusted wholeheartedly, and hoped fervently, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday September 12th. He passed away peacefully in his sleep after spending recent days doing what he most enjoyed. He had great love for his family, a laugh that was contagious, and a smile that warmed the room. Tom was born in Decatur, Illinois, Oct 21, 1927, to Thomas P. Allen Sr. and Lucille Ochs. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he attended Compton College where he met his wife, Mary, to whom he was joyfully married for 67 years. After graduating from Southwestern Law School, he practiced law in the South Bay for 35 years, after which Tom served on the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Torrance. He also sat on assignment on the Riverside County Superior Court. Tom lived in Palos Verdes Estates until he retired to Rancho Mirage. Tom is survived by his wife, Mary, whom he worshiped, his three children, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and his sister, Dorothy Whitman. Services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25th, at Desert Springs Church, 43435 Monterey Ave., Palm Desert. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to Bridge2Rwanda, "Tom Allen Ministries" bridge2rwanda.org

To the family of "The Judge", as those who knew him often referred to him....A very singular man... I knew him as a friend, fishing buddy, confident, and he was our wedding officiant. Those whose paths he crossed were enriched by him. He had a zest for life and no matter what he always had time for you. He was the iconic story teller. I am grateful to have known him and we are all a little better for the experience. He will be missed. My condolences. Dennis and Dawn LeVine

To the Allen Family I send my deepest sympathy. My fondest memory of Tommy was when he was the officiant at my wedding, July 1994. I met Tom as a staff member of Assemblyman Dick Floyd.
