Virginia Lee Jacobson

November 14, 1924 - November 7, 2019

Virginia Jacobson, long time desert resident, passed peacefully into new life one week short of 95 years. Born in San Pedro, California, she moved to Santa Rosa in 1931, where she met her future husband, Ed Jacobson. Just before he deployed to the Philippines in World War II, Virginia bravely traveled alone by train across the USA to be married. In 1949, daughter Randa, was born, and in 1954 they moved to Desert Hot Springs. Ed was a gardener, and Virginia opened VJ Gift Shop at Coffee Pools in DHS. In 1958, son Jon was born, and they continued to take active roles in DHS activities. Virginia helped begin Pied Pipers, a group helping needy children, and later became a Soroptimist and a "Rotary-Ann." In 1970, they opened Desert Hot Springs Florist and Garden Center, and Virginia loved working with flowers and talking to customers. She was very outgoing, full of fun, always positive and cheerful. She remained part of the business until her death, and always felt that the gift of flowers could make everything better. Virginia loved travel and cruising, saying she was "not cut out to be a household frump!" She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, a kind and generous friend, a smiling presence wherever she went. She was a bright example of how to be brave, how to keep moving forward, how to enjoy all that you're lucky enough to be given in this life. She will be greatly missed by her children, Randa Ray (Bob) and Jon Jacobson (Louise,) grandchildren Tracey Williams (Ray), Sarah Sol (Glen), Jennifer Haymore (Michael, grandson Zachary) and Aaron Godsey (Megan, grandsons Silas and Kavik,) brother Ron Baldwin (Margie), and a host of family and friends. Her memorial service will be November 29 at 10:00 AM at the Church on Pierson and Mesquite in DHS. If you wish to remember our Mom in some way, please buy flowers for someone you love.
