Ann Marie Polka

Ann Marie (Metcalf) Polka, age 90, left her earthly body on September 2, 2023. She was born on October 6, 1932, to Jesse (Buck) Metcalf and Laura (Lobue) Metcalf in Houston, TX. She attended Holy Name Catholic School and graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in Houston.

Ann married James "Pancho" Polka in 1951 and they moved to Brazoria, TX in 1954.

She was devoted to her home and family, while still finding time to volunteer in several organizations including the Brazoria County Trail Riders Association, the Brazoria County Fair Association, the Pink Ladies of Brazosport Hospital, and the Brazoria Library. Ann was also employed by The Dow Reservoir, where her skills as a cook and a baker became well known, the Brazoria Library and the Bank of Brazoria.

Ann's two passions were her family and cooking. You could usually find her in the kitchen preparing a delicious meal or baking an amazing dessert. She baked and decorated beautiful cakes for her family's and friend's birthdays and special occasions. There are many fond memories of her delicious cakes, pies, cookies and candies. 

Ann was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Frances (Metcalf) Carlin; and special grandson-in-law, Barry Casey.

She is survived by her children, Jesse "Jimbo" Polka (Sandy), Lori Comley (Herby), Raymond Polka (Stacey) and Robert Polka (Nicolle); grandchildren, Tiffany Comley Casey, James "J.W." Polka (Allison); great-grandsons, Brooks and Bennett Polka.

Pallbearers are Mike Carlin, Mark Carlin, J.W. Polka, James Hoot, Mike Kahl and Wink Bowling.

Honorary Pallbearers are Kenneth Danford and Kenneth Goolsby.

A Rosary will be said on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in West Columbia, Texas, beginning at 9:30 a.m. A Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., following the Rosary. Funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m., with Father Preston Quintella officiating. Burial of Ann's body will be at Brazoria Cemetery, following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Enhabit Hospice Care of College Station, TX; 3600 Hwy. 6 S, Ste 100; College Station, TX 77845, in memory of Ann Polka. The family would also like to thank Sodalis Assisted Living and Enhabit Hospice Care of College Station for the excellent care and kindness shown to Ann during her time with them.
