Services for Calvin Augustine Jefferson, 73, of Hearne are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Hearne. Burial will be at Greater Riverside Cemetery in Hearne. Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Glenn Mack Funeral home in Hearne, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Mr. Jefferson died Friday at Hearne Health Care Center.
Mr. Jefferson was born September 1, 1933 in Calvert, Texas, where he attended public schools in Wheelock and Calvert, Texas and attended Prairie View A&M University. Mr. Jefferson was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in the Elliott Community and Progressive Missionary Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon. He served in the United States Air Force. He was employed at the Hearne Steel Company, Dixie Cafe as a cook, Texas A&M University Maintenance Department and 2nd Street Snack Bar & Catering as manager and cook.
Mr. Jefferson is proceeded in death of his parents Calvin Benjamin Jefferson (1959) and Joanna Parish Jefferson (1988).
Mr. Jefferson was united in holy matrimony on January 10, 1964 to his surviving wife of 42 years, Mrs. Ernestine Boone Jefferson of Hearne. He left to cherish his memories of four children, Angela Callahan of Woodbridge, VA; Brian Boone, Sr., wife Terri of Hearne; Dawn Jefferson of Hearne; Calvin A. Jefferson, Jr, and wife Tammie of Rockdale, Texas. A brother and sister-in-law, David H. Sr. and Faye Jefferson of Calvert; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Deborah Chapman of Columbus, Ohio, and Martha and Eardis Wilkins of Houston; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
