Clara Marie Scott

December 30, 1923 - October 22, 2015

Clara Marie (Olson) Scott, of College Station went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 22nd at the age of 91. Funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, October 26, 2015 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in College Station, to be followed by burial at College Station Cemetery. Visitation for friends and family will be held Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 4 – 6 p.m. at St. Michael's Academy Chapel, 2402 South College Ave, at the corner of Williamson and South College Avenue. Officiating will be Pastor Patrick McLaughlin. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home and Crematory.

Clara was born December 30, 1923 in Presho, South Dakota to Hilda Marie and Hans Martin Olson. She had three older sisters and a younger brother. She graduated from Presho High School and Black Hills Business College in Rapid City, South Dakota. In Rapid City, Clara met her husband-to-be, Ira E. Scott of Rising Star, Texas, then stationed at Rapid City Army Air Base. Clara and Ira were married in the Olson home in Presho, September 20, 1946. The couple settled in Lubbock where Clara worked in the business office of West Texas Hospital. In Lubbock their two children, Gene and Julie, were born. Ira's career would eventually take the family to College Station in 1955, and then Kingsville in 1960, where Clara worked as a bookkeeper at the Kingsville Clinic and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. In 1965 Clara and family returned to College Station where she and Ira would spend the rest of their lives. Clara retired from the Texas A&M's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989 where she had served as the departmental secretary in Veterinary Pathology for 23 years. All the while Clara was active in Our Savior's Lutheran Church in College Station. She was active with Ira in the Brazos Valley Shrine Club, Sojourners and Heroes of '76. Throughout the years Clara and Ira loved to travel and visit friends and family, and some of the highlights included Norway, England, Scotland, British Columbia, Alaska, Puerto Rico, and Branson. After Ira's passing, Clara continued to enjoy traveling and cruising in the company of her siblings and their families, close friends, and her offspring. Clara is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Alpha Ambur and Alice Sanderson; and by her loving husband of 50 years, Ira E. Scott.

She is survived by her sister Arlene Ambur of Presho, South Dakota, and by her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Laverne Olson of Presho, South Dakota; numerous beloved nieces and nephews, their spouses, and offspring; her son Gene Scott and his fiancée Jacqueline Anderson of College Station; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Bill Atkins of Waller; grandchildren Jill Lovell, Will Atkins, Alison McPherson, Crystal Atkins, Mariel Multop, Davis Atkins, and Camille Atkins; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Clara had the gift of many amazing, close and long-lasting friendships spanning even great distances and the passage of many decades. She made it her mission that her children and grandchildren should be instructed in the Christian faith.

She will be remembered for having lived her Christian faith through her caring kindness and service to others, and for her wonderful sense of humor. Clara truly blessed the lives of her family and of so many who knew her and loved her.
