Donna Dunlap Obituary

November 7, 1958 – October 26, 2010

Donna Jean "D.J." Dunlap, 51, of Collinsville, passed away October 26, 2010 at her residence. A memorial service is set for 6 p.m. Friday, November 5, at Hillier Funeral Home, with a family reception from 5 p.m. until time of service.

DJ was born November 7, 1958 to Wayne Alan and Jill Mary (Kavanagh) Dunlap in Bryan, Texas. She graduated from A&M Consolidated High School, College Station, Texas, and received her bachelor's degree with honors from Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas before returning home to Texas A&M University, where she received her Master's Degree. DJ moved to the Tulsa area in 1990, eventually residing in Collinsville, to pursue her career as a Special Agent with the FBI. She retired in September of 2010, after 20 years of faithful service to the Bureau.

DJ developed a love for animals at an early age on her family's ranch in College Station, where she enjoyed riding horses and raising German Shepherds. She carried her love of animals to Oklahoma where she was involved with team penning, and pleasure riding.

She always had German Shepherds for pets, was an American Kennel Club member and adopted several dogs from the German Shepherd Rescue organization. DJ was also an avid gardener and an active member of the Collinsville Farmer's Market. Her other interests included cooking, collecting Native American art, antiques, and anything John Deere.

DJ was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Alan Dunlap of Bryan; her grandparents, Charles and Phyllis Kavanagh of London, England and Wayne and Lela Dunlap of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Survivors include her mother, Jill Mary Dunlap, of Bryan, Texas; brother, Drew Dunlap, and nephew, Brandon Dunlap, both of College Station, Texas.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Jill and Wayne Dunlap '51 Scholarship Fund, Texas A&M University, German Shepherd Rescue Organization, and the American Cancer Society.

Donna and her family were our neighbors for many years and shared our love of horses. Fond childhood memories riding horses with Donna at their ranch. She was a patient and skilled teacher, even with her young peers. As drum major, Donna was our high school band's fearless leader. Wish we'd had the chance to see Donna at last summer's reunion.

Heartfelt condolences to Donna's mother, Drew, and all of her loved ones. She will be dearly missed.
