Dorie Carlin Obituary

Dorie Ellen Carlin, 89, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 6, 2017. Born on September 23, 1927 in Massillon, Ohio, Dorie was the beloved daughter of the late Lida and Clarence Gaumer. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, John E. Carlin. Dorie and John lived in Canton, Ohio until they moved to Fort Myers in 1986.
Dorie leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted son and daughter-in-law, John and Denise Carlin of Fort Myers, grandsons, John and Tyler Carlin of Fort Myers, sister, JoAnn Thompson of Melbourne, Florida, and many other loving family members and dear friends.
Dorie graduated from McKinley High School in Canton, Ohio in 1945 and went on to earn her Bachelors' Degree in Elementary Education from Kent State University and her Masters' Degree from Akron University. Dorie began her career in education as an elementary school teacher in East Sparta, Ohio. She also served as an elementary teacher for the Canton City School District at Summit Elementary School and Mason Elementary School and as a supervisor of Home Instruction. Upon her retirement from Canton City Schools, she was a professor in the College of Education at Walsh University in North Canton.
Dorie and John moved to Fort Myers in 1986. Dorie loved her life in sunny Florida, going to the beach, swimming, playing bridge as a Silver Life Master, taking cruises with her beloved John, and spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, supportive mother, caring daughter, thoughtful sister, and devoted grandmother. Dorie's favorite nights of the week were movie and game nights with the little loves of her life, her grandsons, John Scott and Tyler. One of her favorite sayings was, "What happens at Grandma's house, stays at Grandma's house!" She delighted in spoiling her grandsons; and they adored her.
A private memorial service will be held this summer in Dorie's honor.

My sister was more than a sister to me. Growing up she was like a mother to me. As we became older she was my friend. I could call any time for any thing, she was always ready with advice, a joke or a shoulder to cry on. She always told me, "life is just a lot of memories, make good ones" Now I can look back on all the wonderful memories I have of of all the things we did together and how amazing she was. I will miss you every day my amazing sister, Dorie.
