Doris Jeanne Homeyer
Dec 21, 1938 - Mar 15, 2025
Doris Jeanne Faseler Lamb Homeyer went to her eternal heavenly home on March 15, 2025. She was born on December 21, 1938 to Walter and Virgina Faseler in Port Authur, TX. She led a fulfilling and beautiful life touching the hearts and souls of just about anyone she crossed paths with. So much so that she wanted to make an impact and a difference for generations to come. She had wonderful memories on sitting in her mother's lap while Len took a nap. She picked up on it quickly and was reading at 3 years old, and never stopped. She knew at an early age she wanted to follow in her parent's footsteps and become a teacher. This led to a lifetime love of learning.
She loved her extended family with all the aunts, uncles and cousins in Yancey, TX. One of her favorite past-times there was playing on the goat farm and the cow tank. Family reunions were full of fun, laughter and great food. The family moved to Pasadena, TX before her freshman year of high school. While she had always loved church, her passion for Christ began truly. She became active in not only the school choir but also at church. She participated in the MYF, a social club for teenagers within the church. She would go to city wide, Houston and Pasadena, events and even saw Billy Graham one time and made a new friend, Joe Ed Lamb. She graduated from Pasadena High School in 1956 at the age of 17. She and one of her best friends decided on Southwestern University where she studied Education. They became members of Delta Theta Sorority, of which she was a life-time member. While at Southwestern, she reconnected with Joe Ed and they later married in 1958. Together, they had 3 children, Chris, Greg and Terri Lynn. She had started her teaching career but continued to play the piano and direct choirs, both children and adults, at every church they served within the Texas Conference. In 1976, they moved to Caldwell, TX where they served Caldwell Methodist Church and Cooks Point Methodist Church. She continued with leading both adults and children's choirs and playing the piano at both churches.
Doris, Greg and Terri moved to Bryan, TX during the summer of 1980. She began to further her education and graduated with her Masters in Education in 1984 from Texas A&M University. Beginning fall of 1980, she continued her teaching with Bryan Independent School District. She taught at Carver/Kemp and Stephen F. Austin. She was dedicated to guiding and instructing her students through many different ways, and she commanded her room of students with grace. They all wanted her attention and praise. She became the Advisor and Chaperone for the Future Problem Solvers and led their team to participate in statewide competitions and in national competitions in Boston, MA, St. Louis MO and Ann Arbor MI. Tommy enjoyed traveling with them as well and was there to cheer them on. As she grew older, most of her students remembered her fondly. She was always amazed when someone would remember her and tell her how much they enjoyed their classes with her. She retired in 1997 after dedicating almost 30 years to teaching her students.
Doris and Thomas Homeyer married on March 6, 1986 at Cooks Point Methodist Church. They enjoyed spending time with friends and family whether playing bridge, spades or dominos. They enjoyed playing the piano together. The same notes played by her resonated in Thomas' ears as he described it as the most beautiful music he had ever heard. She continued her love of music playing at several churches around Bryan/College Station. This included A & M Methodist Church, Covenant Presbyterian Church and Cooks Point Methodist Church. Playing the piano at church did not stop her love of teaching. She taught piano lessons until January 2025 at the age of 86.
Doris and Thomas began to invest in real estate and rental properties. This grew into a family business that has grown for over 35 years. They began traveling and enjoyed taking trips with family and the grandchildren. She enjoyed Germany and loved seeing all of the sights she had only read about. Doris and Thomas loved taking their grandchildren to various places across the nation and would usually have something to learn as well as having fun. Some of her favorites were Disney World, Rhode Island and Boston, Lake Tahoe, Hawaii and a cruise to Alaska. She loved to share with all of the grandchildren.
She loved her family immensely, whether her children and their families or her extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. She enjoyed sharing her opinion and quick to tell you why her opinion was correct.
Doris J. Homeyer was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Virginia Faseler, her former husband, Joesph E. Lamb, her eldest son Christopher E. Lamb and grandson, Justin B. South. She leaves behind her dearly loved husband of 43 years, Thomas Homeyer, her daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Howard Shoemake, her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Diana Lamb, as well as her grandchildren, Jace South, Ryan and wife Courtney Burkhalter, Tyler Burkhalter, Chris and wife Megan Lamb, Elisa Lamb, Chad Lamb and Kyle Lamb.
